Time to cut our losses

EDITOR, The Tribune.

POPEYE’S Ball, Nassau…Does it make money?

I was shocked, when listening to the Minister of Youth, Sports & Culture…after the Minister of Tourism, saying that we have to evaluate all the events, that the Government sponsors, for the Minister of Youth, Sports - to come out so positive! Wonder. Tourism controls these events anyway.

Popeye’s Ball cannot make money for us - Atlantis discounts their rooms by 50%, kills the employees take home share of gratuities.

Same principle goes for the IAAF Relays - these athletes do not drink - go to bed early and basically eat only pasta! Again Atlantis discounts the rooms by 50%.

Unless the event makes money and there is a 12-15 times return, forget it Minister - cut it out!

Junkanoo can be supported as a local cultural event as it does not bring in many visitors. Junkanoo Carnival - privatise, let someone else take the risk...they will soon learn.
