A NEW fixture hearing date has been scheduled for a man and woman awaiting trial in connection with a recent major drug seizure.

Chantell Brown, 25, and Tomico Horton, 41, were scheduled to return to Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to receive a date for trial concerning the single charge of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply that was allegedly committed on April 25.

However, Horton was not taken to court from the Department of Correctional Services, resulting in a further adjournment of the matter until Friday, May 5.

On the day in question, officers seized a number of sacks and a children’s backpack containing $390,000 worth of marijuana. The seizure occurred at a home in the Big Pond area.

Both accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when initially arraigned last Friday.

Brown appeared in Supreme Court on Monday for a bail application and was granted $8,000 with a suretor. However, she was ordered to surrender all of her travel documents to the Supreme Court and report to the Grove Police Station every Saturday on/or before 6pm.

The pair could face a fine and/or up to seven years imprisonment if convicted of the offence.
