No one understands the economics and social implications of the indecision concerning this resort. However Ministers are talking double-talk.
If there were numerous enquiries and negotiations, why on the earth would Government even consider purchasing this property? I am not making this up, a MInister this week on the News made the comment, in fact he was surprised that there is so much interest.
Doesn’t the Minister of Finance for starters, understand that Hutchinson-Whampoa with all their connections, have been unable to find a suitable suitor, so after we purchase this property a knight on a white stallion, will ride along the beach and take it off us? Come off it Hon. Peter Turnquest, this is risky, seriously risky business. $80-90m worth of risky business without refurbishing.
There is a reality in regards to Grand Bahama – it has never been able to succeed in tourism for whatever reason. Only in the hey day of the original opening of El Casino - the junkets operated by Laker was Grand Bahama able to attract a reasonable level of visitors.
Cruise ships have never been attracted, or even liked Grand Bahama.
Back 10-months ago you had a potential suitor and seemingly someone screwed up…inexperience in negotiating or not communicating.
I say absolutely NO to this purchase - madness of the extreme.
