LNG and effect on climate change

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I thought it was paramount policy of the FNM that they would safeguard the environment - our fishery resources and assist in the global project to curtail-control climate warming?

LNG might be cheaper than Bunker C but….

Where we should be deciding solely to concentrate on Solar we are committing for the next 15+ years to a polluting gas which scientifically is proven to cause….

1) Extreme weather, probability of more intense hurricanes.

2) Acidic oceans (will kill our coral reefs more than the present)

3) Climate warming

4) LNG actually adds a much higher level of Methane than burning coal.

Where is Environmentalist and awardee of the US Embassy ‘Woman of Courage Award’ Ms Sam Duncombe? It is useless making noise after the fact…everyone should be extremely concerned and screaming at your MP…

Have any studies concerning EIA and Safety been completed by Mr Wayne Heastie/BP&L or there is one decision…LNG will save us probably after accounting for the inefficiency and debt servicing of BP&L just a few cents per KW.

Solar is cheaper than LNG now, and will not further climate change, and will not indebt the Bahamas, wreck our foregin exchange balances or risk environmental disaster if an accident were to occur. LNG would wipe out everything for 2-3 miles probably in the event of an accident. But the sun is free, so that means no money for its end "supplier", no corporate structures to enrich so this is all probably too dreamy to think we'd ever "cut the cord" to our fossil fuel overlords.

But hey, maybe they will find gas in the Bahamas, and we can pay to buy it (back from overseas processors), liquify it, and pay to ship it (back), instead of just tapping the sun!

PS - St. Eustasias in the Dutch Caribbean is now 100% solar! (which was the way to go rather than rebuild from storm damage)
