Driving out the tenants?

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Has the Minnis Government considered the effect if a landlord takes advantages of the FNM Grants-Bain scheme and adds an inside toilet and flowing water service?

Cab’t remember which news but very recently in interviews residents of Bain-Grants Town were very clear in their thoughts…add an inside toilet and running water means we will not be able to afford the increased in rent.

So is this FNM-Minnis policy going to cause worse problems than we already have?

If there is any chance for this Grants Town-Bain Town urban renewal it is to start with owner-occupier residencies first.

The uninformed person’s cheaper housing scheme, $30,000.00 for the lot, etc…well how many in the uniformed services have $6-8,000.00 cash to qualify to get a mortgage for the $30,000.00 let alone to build the house, $50,000.00 is nowhere near the cost even without customs and VAT try $60-70,000. If these officers rely exclusively on what the treasury pays them then this scheme is dead-on-arrival.

Are the rush with these proposals all tied to the bad polling results from Domain? There does not seem to be too much thinking in them.

In a recent column in the Pinch, the writer posits that the offer was extended to civil servants first because they have salary to deduct. The interest rate would be 2%. Free money.

Even then many would not qualify because up to 75% of their salary is taken up by the furniture seller and annual trips to disneyland.
