Basketball Tournament in honour of Tyler Rolle Jr

OVER the years, Sam Carter has been successful in hosting some of the greatest Park League basketball tournaments in the Fort Charlotte community.

Recently, he was responsible for organising the first T's Outside Stadium Basketball Tournament. It was an event held in honour of Tyler Rolle Jr, a student of CR Walker Secondary High.

The event was staged in the backyard of house #39 in Coral Road, Colony Village, one of the biggest backyard basketball courts on the island. "We played two-on-two, one-on-one, shot free throws and three-pointers in the senior, intermediate and junior divisions," Carter said. "We had ladies up to the age of 69 years old shooting free throws."

It was a part of the community efforts by the Yamacraw constituency where Elsworth Johnson is the Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Legal Affairs. After giving out a number of trophies and prizes to the deserving winners and spectators on hand, Carter said they intend to make the event an annual one.

"The crowd was very enthusiastic," he said. "It's a learning experience, but next time it will be a lot better. We had a lot of fun, lots of eats and drinks. Everyone was asking when is the next one going to be held."

Carter said they are looking at putting on a similar event during Christmas as they work towards fostering a better relationship in the community.
