Junior tennis stars soak up experience in Palm Springs

SOME of the Bahamas’ talented tennis juniors are gaining much experience and showcasing their skills at the Lil Mo International in Palm Springs, Florida, where approximately 500 athletes are in attendance.

Singles Main Draw

In the Boys’ 11, Jackson Mactaggart defeated Maxim Yevdayev 7-6(2); 6-1 in the round of 32.

Moving onto the round of 16, Jackson, seeded 9th, won over the 5th seed Edwin Averjanov 6-3, 6-3. Jackson moves into the quarter-finals main draw.

Singles Consolation

In the Girls’ 14 singles, Kaylee Kanuka defeated Isabella Freitas 7-5, 6-1 in the consolation semi-finals and will play the finals consolation.

In the Girls’ 12 singles, Jalisa Clarke made it to the consolation quarter-finals where she lost to Manuela Filardi Louza Vieira.

In the Boys’ 12 singles, Khai Rees pulled off his main draw win over Juan Diego Castro7-6 (3), 6-4.

In the round of 32, Rees eventually lost to Nicholas Carneiro.

In the Girls’ 11 singles, BreAnn Ferguson played well and defeated Sophia van der Berg 6-2, 6-1 in the round of 64 but did not get the win in the round of 32 against Savanna Salahuddin-Wright.

In the Girls’ 10 singles, Melissa Beakes defeated Maria Koroljova 7-5, 6-4 in the round of 16. Koroljova went on to main draw quarter-finals, but did not get the win over Siany Panaggio.

In the Girls’ 9 singles in main draw, Briana Houlgrave defeated Marissa Bayentin 6-2, 6-0.

Houlgrave, however, would not win in the quarter-finals against Jasmine Maria Stroe.

Srae Rodgers played in the round of 32 losing to Tea Kovacevic moving on to the consolations.

In the Boys’ 8 single green, Chase Newbold, Cameron Ferguson and Kingston Rheees all played in this category.

Newbold advanced in the consolation round by defeating Alexander Arias 6-2, 6-1 in round two and Marc Allen 6-1, 6-1 in the consolation quarter-finals.

Newbold moved on to the consolation semi-finals.

In the Boys’ 9 singles green, Zamere Davis was in the consolation round two where he lost out to Diego Huerres.

In the Boys’ 9 singles yellow, Patrick Mactaggart played in the consolation singles quarter-finals, winning over Iker Fernandez 6-1, 6-2.

In the consolation semi-finals, Mactaggart lost to Vince Calvo 6-4, 6-3.

In the Boys’ 10 main draw singles, Alec Cooper won over Leonardo Carmo 6-4, 6-4.

In the quarter-finals, Cooper lost to James Andrew Ross.

In the Boys’ 11 singles consolation, William Mccartney defeated Shane Price 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 and moved onto the next round in the consolation quarter-finals.

Jack Boals defeated Jacques van Schalkwyk 6-3, 6-0 in the consolation. Boals also moves onto the consolation quarter-finals.

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association wishes Jackson Mactaggart all the best in the singles main draw quarter-finals.

For the consolation round, best wishes were extended to William Mccartney, Jack Boals, Chase Newbold and Kaylee Kanuka as they advanced.

The BLTA said all the kids put in a good effort as they competed on the international stage.

Many of the players are also scheduled to play doubles in the tournament.
