Mingoes shot down by Rockets

THE University of The Bahamas Mingoes men’s basketball team lost to the Discount Distributors Rockets for the second time this season 88-81 Wednesday night at the CI Gibson Gymnasium.

It was one of two games played in the New Providence Basketball Association’s regular season. In the opener, the Sun Oil Rockers defeated the Caro Contractors Titans 71-67.

Here’s a summary of the games played:

Lerecus Armbrister came off the bench scoring 18 points with four assists, four steals and two rebounds to pace the Discount Distributors to victory.

Georgio Walkes had 17 points and eight rebounds, two assists and two steals; David Taylor had 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals; Cordero Pinder had 12 points and eight rebounds and Tomeko Moxey added nine points.

In a losing effort for the University of The Bahamas, Kemsy Sylvester poured in a game high 29 points with 12 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Romero Cornish had 19 points, four rebounds and three assists and Travaughn Nicholls had ten points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Midway through the second quarter, Mingoes forward Travaughn Nicholls scored and then went down with an apparent knee injury. In the previous game starting point guard Ramon Dames was also injured. Both players are possibly out for the reminder of the season.

Rockets 71

Titans 67

Cameron Chery led three players in double figures as Sun Oil pulled off their win over the Caro Contractors.

Chery scored a game high 20 points with eight rebounds; Bertrum Minns had 16 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and two assists and Craig Gibson had 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Sun Oil opened a 20-14 first quarter lead that they held on for a 32-30 advantage at the half. They went up 51-48 at the end of the third and cruised in the fourth.

Delmar Hamilton had 16 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals; Savant Laing had 15 points, fiver rebounds, five steals and two assists; Levanti Roberts had 12 points and five rebounds and Dewhone Murray had eight points and four rebounds.

The NPBA will be back in action tonight with three games on tap. Here’s the schedule:
