Hypocrisy of awards system

EDITOR, The Tribune

Queen’s Honours and now National Honours — who should receive them?

We are a nation of young people but we reward the geriatrics persons mostly over 60 even retired in a system which is drastically flawed.

The system is really flawed because what easily occurs is that a person who wants to be ‘self decorated-honoured can orchestrate being honoured. The system is by application supposed to be that the honoree does not know but I guess all know and many will have started their own promotion to get such an honour...vanity kills and certain people so love to stick themselves out there although they have already been honoured by The Queen in the Queen’s Honours. 2019 showed this.

Some years ago in the United Kingdom the Honours List was changed and from geriatrics we saw young people being rewarded for their attainments.......yes young people. Don’t we have young people, say in their 30’s who have excelled in their profession or have been outstanding in the world of civics? Of course, but witness the prime criteria — you must be, yes must be a party in office known supporter and this Award system is called a National Award system? As is abolish it as it is total hypocrisy!
