Englerston MP Glenys Hanna Martin hit out at the government’s new lockdown measures on Monday night, calling them “brutal”.

In a statement on her Facebook page, Mrs Hanna Martin said: “I have in the past supported all the protocols and all the lockdowns but this one, particularly as it relates to an inability to access food and water, is brutal.

“I am stunned that our leaders believe this is an acceptable approach especially as it relates to persons with health concerns like diabetics, the elderly, children, people living in poverty many of whom are not on the food programme. By the way they must know that many have been unable to register for the programme because of sustained issues with the app.
“I want to say more but I will reserve for now.
“I am, however, calling on the government to bring immediate attention during these next 7 days to vulnerable persons. A hot line should be established forthwith by the Department of Social Services (not the police) for people in crisis to receive prompt help or seek support.

“We all want to get beyond this point but we need wise decision-making that invokes the confidence of the people and not destroy their spirits.”

Yes, this is past brutal, thousands don't have electricity so they can't store any food for more than a day, thousands don't have access to running water and are in need of water from the government pump hourly, to lock down the country without any warning to at least be able to secure food and water for even a day is cruel and ugly. God doesn't like cruel nor does he like ugly.

You had my support until you invoked your fairytale god.

Get a grip. If there’s a god then he caused this and is therefore cruel.

Boy does religion make people stupid!

The heartless pm has lost it and the support of most thinking People in the Country. His cabinet, back-benchers and senators have lost it as well, or are too lily-livered to stand up against their draconian leader...

Finally, someone who is listening to voice of the Bahamian people cries and understands that these lockdown measures are completely brutal. Especially, Elderly, people with diabetes, other medical conditions, children and family living in poverty. Inability to access food, and water is cruelty.

I think that MP Glenys Hanna Martin, speaks with so much empathy she hits on important points.

As a leader, good decision making also comes with having empathy for the people that livings in your community.

People cannot live under these harsh restrictions.

According to Dame is all right if persons can not get their medicine or buy food and water. This affects the poor.

Will COVID 19 disappear after the seven-day lockdown??

Perhaps we should drag the p.m. out of his ivory tower and make him do a food store bag packing boy job - if he is intelligent enough to handle it.

A basic human right is not that people should have to get water from a pump, but a basic human right is that people should have communities where water is at their homes. We cannot in this Bahamas still have people living in homes without water.

Nassau is a cry baby, not tough at all. You can tell who is who when the comfort zone is traded in hard times...
