Beware the brain drain

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Re:‘Stop beating up on private sector’. The Tribune, Business, December 31, 2019.

IT seems businesses will be expected to succeed in teaching numeracy and literacy to “Bahamian Understudies” even though our professional government school teachers may have failed after many years of trying.

Does this mean the private employers will be required to obtain Special Education Teacher certificates, and be paid accordingly? Furthermore, the downside is that if the business community ever finds a way to miraculously instil a work ethic and improve workforce quality using the “understudies”, they would then surely qualify for a tempting lifetime professorship at the likes of Oxford or Cambridge --- and thus inadvertently contribute to our “brain drain”.
