Accused denies assaulting man

A 22-year-old man yesterday denied allegations of assaulting a man last month with a dangerous instrument.

Shawn Cox appeared before Senior Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain charged with one count of assault with a dangerous instrument and another count of assault.

It is alleged that on October 20, Cox, being concerned with another, unlawfully assaulted Fantino Johnson with a screwdriver. It is also alleged that he, with another person, assaulted Johnson the same day.

Cox pleaded not guilty to the charges and the case was adjourned to January 19, 2021. He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BCDS) in the interim.

Also appearing before Magistrate Swain was Edwin Johnson, 55, who was charged with one count of assault.

Officers allege that Johnson unlawfully assaulted Wilnique Dean on October 28 while at Johnson Road.

Johnson pleaded not guilty to the charge and his case was adjourned to January 5, 2021. He was granted $1,000 bail with one surety.
