A 45-year-old man was fined $75 for resisting arrest when an officer responded to a domestic complaint.
The prosecution said that on October 26 police were called to a residence where it was reported that Vaughn Armbrister was behaving in a disorderly manner.
When they arrived, they saw Armbrister arguing with his girlfriend. The prosecution said officers told Armbrister to stop cursing and carrying on, but he did not cooperate.
The court was also told that when Police Constable 4029 McDonald attempted to detain the accused, he pulled away. Armbrister was eventually arrested and taken to a nearby police station where he was charged with the offence.
During the hearing before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes yesterday, Armbrister pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest.
He was represented by attorney Ian Cargill who told the magistrate the incident had occurred after Armbrister overheard his girlfriend talking to another man on the phone. He claimed that the accused only acted in the heat of the moment, because he was jealous.
As a result, Magistrate Forbes accepted the accused’s guilty pleas and told him he ought to have better judgment to avoid engaging in behaviour that could possibly land him in jail. He subsequently fined Armbrister $25 for acting in a disorderly manner and another $50 for resisting lawful arrest. Magistrate Forbes warned the accused that if he failed to pay the fines, he could risk spending a week behind bars.
