A 27-year-old man who was caught smoking marijuana must stay out of trouble for six months to avoid being fined.

Elroy Rolle was arrested after officers found a gram of Indian hemp on him on August 4.

The court was told that officers on mobile patrol on George Street stopped a Nissan March after they noticed the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

The prosecution said when the man pulled over and rolled down his window, officers noticed a strong scent of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. They then informed him that he would be searched for drugs. During their investigation, police found a brown homemade cigarette and a silver foil wrap which both contained marijuana. The driver, who later identified himself as Rolle, was subsequently arrested. When he was questioned in police custody, he admitted to the offence.

During his arraignment before Senior Derence Rolle Davis, Rolle pleaded guilty.

As a result, he was placed on six months probation. Magistrate Rolle Davis said if he was convicted of an offence within that time frame, he would be fined $150.
