IN a statement confirming Lanisha Rolle’s resignation as minister of youth, sports, and culture, the Cabinet Office said “certain matters have been brought to the attention” of Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis and are now “under investigation”.

The statement thanked Mrs Rolle for her service and announced that Iram Lewis will be appointed the new minister of youth, sports and culture.

“The Cabinet Office notifies for general information that Lanisha Rolle has tendered her resignation as minister of youth, sports and culture,” the statement noted. “Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis has accepted Mrs Rolle’s resignation. Certain matters have been brought to the attention of the prime minister and are under investigation.

“The prime minister thanks Mrs Rolle for her service. The prime minister has advised His Excellency the Governor General to appoint Iram Lewis as substantive minister of youth, sports and culture. Mr Lewis will demit his post as minister of state in the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction, which remains under the ministerial portfolio of the prime minister.”

In a letter sent to Governor General C A Smith on Tuesday morning, Mrs Rolle announced her resignation but said she remained committed to serving out the remainder of her term as the Seabreeze MP.

She is the fourth Cabinet minister to resign from the Minnis administration this term. Mrs Rolle could not be reached.

Lol. Long overdue. Incompetent and not well liked. Just surprised she lasted this long.

Fully agree. But what you say here applies equally to Minnis in the minds of many. lol

Of course. But in his case the General Election will take care of that.

She had been MIA since they brought down her christmas tree. She was last seen skipping the grocery line at golden gates in the very beginning of the lockdown. The crowd booed.

Not voluntarily resign. That's all I'd say.
But whilst she did survive a regime culture tolerating $100,000 Christmas Tree decorations - not was in her cards much stacked against Comrade Sister, this time.
Ads yet one more the unwinnable Redcoats' in a general election regime change of House-seats that leans elect opposition candidates.

the Tribune editor (among others) told Dr Minnis that Mrs Rolle was not ready. This is not on a failure on anybody else's part but Dr Minnis. A failure to lead.

If wishes were horses the PLP would still be in power. Twist and turn and sway and swirl, the FNM will continue in power as long as we have the type of opposition party like the PLP led by Mr. Davis.

It is unfathomable to read the foolishness and nonsense being written by nitwits and dimwits like the mentally retarded like Tribanon who was rejected by the FNM.I am told that his rejection was based on his mental condition.

Now is not the time to wish mean things on our Government. Now is the time to celebrate the outstanding leadership of the Prime Minister. He does not accept any Minister underperforming, engaged in corruption or disrespecting the populace.

Just look at his record. So stop your nonsense and get on the development train.

I don't think he wants the PLP back in power. From what I read his point, like many, is, they're both the same.

As to being disgruntled with the FNM, well I don't know about that, but if you change disgruntled to disenchanted, plenty people feeling that.

So the look at those evil PLPs, better vote for us will motivate nobody to waste time to vote. On the other hand the PLP supporters are fired up. The best way the FNM can fight is to get rid of Minnis. They should have done it ages ago. But they say back and banged on the desks to nonsense. Now he removing anybody who could be a challenge to him. (Lanisha excluded). Like Mr Wells said Dr Minnis is the testicular (what?) head of the FNM... and they going down

@Bottomdud makes me chuckle because he knows absolutely nothing about me. Otherwise he would know I'm a successful businessman (no thanks to either the FNM or PLP) and a family man. He would also know I've never aspired to public office, mainly because I'm not that type of person. But, like so many others not inclined to run for elected office, I've found other ways of helping my fellow Bahamians who have not been as fortunate as me in life. Besides, my wife would probably leave me if I ever through my hat in the political ring. I've always just thought of myself as a Bahamian patriot who cares alot about his country and his fellow Bahamians; one with the fundamental right to call out the readily apparent waywardness of our more corrupt political elite and their cronies. For whatever reason, Bahamians like me seem to really get under the skin of Bahamians like @Bottomdud. LOL

A common jjjoke now is that Minnis wouldn’t shuffle his cabinet so his cabinet is reshuffling him. Every time he turns around, someone is resigning, getting fired, becoming disgruntled or even defecting. Democracy at its finest and politics in full swing as silly season becomes more silly. Donald Trump is still fighting to keep his tax records private and many Bahamian politicians have learned how to hide their assets, especially after serving in some of the highest positions in the country. The streets will always have a story and many will cry out for justice, but that, too seems as far away s the next pandemic.

Plenty dirt was revealed in the last administration, I don't care to post any.. can't say Perry or Brave did accepted any resignation, no o fthem resign. Brave went as far as to say that Terrance Basitain's audits was not credible.. I am waiting for his song and dance. I love Mr. Bastian, he doesn't care for colors, he just does his job, let the chips fall where they may.

The major reason why I can’t (don’t) trust Brave Davis is because ha knew that it was by not following the COVID-19 Emergency Orders that he caught the v.iris. Fortunately, he was able to jet himself out of the country and to the US and get the best health care available at that time for Corona. He recovered, yet when he returned to The Bahamas, but rather than using his experience to inform Bahamians of how serious and potentially deadly the Corona is, he constantly attacked Minnis and the government for the Emergency Orders. Now with corona cases in the US falling by 70% since mid January, evidence shows that if Trump had only halfway enforced the emergency orders, not only the United States but the world would be mostly over the corona pandemic by now. How can you trust a man who is willing to forgo the safety and welfare of his country to advance his political agenda and score cheap political points.

Even after losing some of his key personnel, even in the most treacherous times of this country’s history, Minnis has proven that he was able to hold on to the tiller and steady the course. Reece Chipman’s resignation was like a basketball ball player who only wants to shoot the ball, not being considerate that there are four other members of the team on the court and others on the bench who also, not only wants a part in the game but who also needs uniforms, tennis and socks. Persons like Vaughan Miller’s exit did not really effect the FNM as many persons expected he returned home to the PLP and to swallow his vomit. On the other hand the loss of Dr Duane Sands and Peter Turnquest were deep cuts that required a lot of surgery , if only to fix the cosmetics. Losing the health minister in the middle of a health pandemic was not easy . But Minnis stepped in and was able to fill the gap. And continue on in the crisis and battle the corona virus. Some believe the rift of sorts with Dr Sands and th Minnis administration is fixable and fixing it will be beneficial to both the FNM and Dr Sands. ForvSands to go back to th PLP at this point will be political suicide for Sands as he will take the trust and credibility issue with him. But the Bahamian people seems more willing to forgive him if he remains with the FNM and stays humble for a while. Fredric McAlpine is another kettle of fish. And it is not a small kettle of fish. McAlpine is a Belinda Wilson personality of sorts. You cannot say, ‘all bark and no bite’, but ‘more bark than bite.’ A type of creature who one would sometimes wish he would just go ahead and bite because his barking not only becomes irritating and distracting, but destroys the peacefulness and overshadows the progress of the party. Maybe McAlpine needs to be ‘fed to the wolves’, and allowed to go it along, if only to learn to appreciate the benefits of team work and party loyalty. But, unfortunately it the FNM cuts him loose, he may cower under the PLP banner like a Potcake under the front porch . This can be very distracting and draw much attention. Then there is the speaker, Halson Moultrie, who seems to want to Dre his own maps and set his own political course. And he insists on using his personal, political compass that many feel is setting him off course and giving wrong readings. Of course, his performance oss the first ‘independent’ speaker in the HOA will be measured and monitored over the next few months. Will the FNy throw him an olive branch, or have they already decided that too many of his differences are irreconcilable?

The comments on this post convince me that we have no idea what we want in this country. Someone does something bad in government and when the party like the PLP take not action we complain. Someone does bad agin and when the party like the FNM calls for their resignation, what do people do? Complain.

I hate to downplay mental health issues, but something is seriously wrong when what is supposed to be done is done, and people complain.

If you think Davis would have done better, then you want this country to just implode.

Why not stop your snivelling and just vote for the best qualified independent candidate running in your contituency? And if you find there's no independent candidate running in your constituency, then consider urging a suitable prospective independent to run or not voting at all.

Always bear in mind that Davis ('Heads') and Minnis ('Tails') represent the two sides of the very same evil coin that they want you to keep tossing over and again as did Christie and Ingraham for decades. And no matter which side of that evil coin a voter picks, The Bahamas and the Bahamian people stand to be the really big losers. By now most voters should be tired and fed up of stomaching the incompetence and corruption of the leadership of both the PLP and FNM alike. Vote for the independent candidate or don't vote at all.
