Bad move

EDITOR, The Tribune.

The proposal to decrease Vat but add it to bread basket items, and everything else, is wrong. I saw a new government minister on the news saying, that it is an insult to poor people to assume that they only buy bread basket items, but that is what the majority of poor people can afford to buy. Many people are paid 200 or 300 dollars per week. Some people only make 150 per week and they have to pay bills and buy groceries with that.

Persons who are well paid cannot relate to the plight of a poor person.

I thought this government was going to look out for poor people, but it seems they are not.

If they are going to decrease Vat certain items should still be Vat free.

Medication and doctor visits along with basic items like bread, eggs, pampers, milk, soap and detergent should remain vat free. The idea is there should be relief in some areas for low income people.

Vat should not be added to bread basket items, but if you must make a change, add it to a few items, but not those listed. Also medicine and medical services are already expensive. Vat should not be added to them.

The persons in charge of making such decisions should stop and think and change what they intend to do.

Show that you really care about the poor and are not only saying that you do by making decisions that will help and not hurt them.
