Munnings makes his debut in Portugal, Fritz signs on with new club in Spain

TRAVIS Munnings made his debut with a new club in Portugal while Shaquillo Fritz signed on with a new club for the upcoming 2021 season in Spain.

Munnings and Sporting Lisboa Benfica got out to a 2-0 start in the FIBA Europe Cup Qualifiers.

After playing sparingly in an 83-77 win over Voluntari, Munnings had seven points and four rebounds off the bench in just 17 minutes of a 81-73 win over Groningen.

This will mark Munnings’ second season in the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol (LPB). Benfica eliminated Munnings’ former club UD Oliveirense club in the quarterfinals of last season’s playoffs.

In his debut season in the LPB, Munnings averaged 12.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game and helped lead UD Oliveirense to a 19-7 regular season record. He averaged 11.2 points and seven rebounds per game in the quarterfinals against Benfica.

The versatile 6’7” forward played for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League. In his best performance in Las Vegas, he scored eight points on 2-3 shooting from beyond the arc in an 80-79 overtime loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Fritz will remain in Spain’s LEB Silver but will make the move to Zamora Enamora for the upcoming campaign.

The 6’8” forward spent last season with two LEB Silver Clubs - Venterro CBV Villarrobledo where he averaged 3.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in 11 contests and Hozono Global Jairis where he averaged 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game through 10 contests.

Fritz completed his collegiate career with the Pacific Tigers as a graduate transfer.

In 30 appearances for Pacific, he led the team in field goal percentage at 69.6 percent, ranked second on the team with 26 blocks and fourth with 98 rebounds.

He finished sixth in the West Coast Conference with 0.87 blocks per game. On the season, he averaged 2.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
