Davis and international participation

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis, MP, QC, is to be commended on the energetic and focused style of leadership that he has demonstrated from his first early days in office.

While building his administration, he’s already travelled to Washington, DC, and New York where he gave a masterful address to the United Nations General Assembly.

In short order he and his delegation are to embark on a very important trip to Scotland where they will take part in discussions relative to climate control; global warming and the affects on a coastal and flat land such as our wonderful nation.

There are naysayers who advocate that these issues are trivial and have yet to be proven by scientific data. I beg to differ.

Hurricanes are now frequent and more ferocious than before.

Several states over the USA, especially Louisiana, were devastated and grossly flooded in recent months due to a monster hurricane.

That state, months later, is still in the recovery and rebuild mode. Thanks be to The Lord, Jesus Christ that we did not experience one so far this year.

We all witnessed the way many areas of New Providence and Grand Bahama, along with Abaco, are quickly flooded and roads made impassable for days and weeks whenever we have heavy rain or a weather disturbance.

It is imperative that the Prime Minister and his delegation advocate for financial and technical assistance for studies to be done here at home.

I have no doubt that they will bring home the so-called ‘bacon’ while presenting the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fred Mitchell MP, to rub shoulders with other world leaders and striking up friendships that could be beneficial to The Bahamas.

It is indeed a New Day in this country and I predict that the best is yet to come.

All cabinet ministers have hit the ground running and would have toured the facilities within their respective portfolios.

All hands will be needed on deck and expectations must be tempered during these early days.

Hope and real help, however, are within sight. Go for it PM! Safe trip, God willing.
