Police officer testifies in stolen goods trial

By PAVEL BAILEY

A POLICE officer testified yesterday in a man’s trial for possession of stolen toolboxes.

Dennis Ingraham appeared before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans as Constable Darren Sherman, an investigator into Ingraham’s matter, gave testimony in court.

According to Constable Sherman, on June 3, 2021, officers questioned both Ingraham and another suspect – Shadrach Gibson – in relation to two stolen toolboxes, one orange and black and the other yellow and black.

During questioning both suspects denied any involvement in the offence. However, during his police statement, Gibson informed officers that the car the stolen goods were found in belonged to Ingraham.

Gibson further explained to officers that he had borrowed the car from Ingraham that day to get breakfast for his girlfriend and that Ingraham was present when officers arrested him near the car.

Ingraham then told officers that the car belonged to him, but not the toolboxes which he claimed he did not put in his vehicle. Still, Ingraham was arrested on charges of unlawful possession.

After Constable Sherman’s testimony Magistrate Vogt-Evans told Ingraham to pray to God to change his ways as she expressed genuine fear for his future.

Ingraham’s case was adjourned to June 20.
