TWO men were fined in court yesterday after being found earlier this week with a quantity of marijuana.

Christiavo Tucker, 27, and Benjamin Gray, 45, were charged separately with drug possession after police found them with more than an ounce of marijuana on February 1.

According to court documents, sometime around 5.45am a team of officers, armed with a search warrant, went to a home on Cypress Avenue where they met Tucker.

After showing their warrant, officers then conducted a search of the home, but found nothing.

Officers then decided to search a derelict vehicle parked next to the home which resulted in them finding a blue shopping bag containing two clear plastic wraps with suspected marijuana.

The drugs had an estimated weight of 3lbs, the court was told.

As a result, Tucker was arrested and taken into police custody.

Three hours later, police arrested Gray for the same offence.

According to police, officers were on mobile patrol in the area of East Street and Strachan’s corner when they observed Gray with several other men acting in a suspicious manner.

While searching the men, officers found a Honda key in Gray’s pocket.

When asked if the key belonged to him, police said the defendant acted suspiciously which aroused their attention.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a white bucket, containing several clear plastic baggies and a brown taped package with suspected marijuana.

The defendant was subsequently arrested for possessing the drugs, which had an estimated weight of 2.2 lbs.

Both men pleaded guilty to the offences during their hearing before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

Gray was fined $2,000 or nine months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

Meanwhile, Tucker received a $2,500 fine. He was also told that failure to pay the fine would result in him spending nine months behind bars.
