A 50-year-old man was fined $3,000 yesterday after pleading guilty to drug possession with intent to supply.

Roosevelt McKenzie appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney yesterday after police found him with one pound of marijuana on Feb 12.

He was one of several men who appeared in court on drug-related charges.

Before sentencing, the Crown prosecutor told the magistrate that the accused had been convicted of a similar offence in 2019.

As a result, he was fined $3,000 or one year in prison.

Ricardo Adderley, 20, was also charged with drug possession after police found one ounce of marijuana in his home on February 11.

According to court documents, officers, armed with a search warrant, went to a home on Baltic Avenue and Pyfrom Road sometime around 10.40 am that day.

While there, police searched one of the bedrooms where they found two Ziploc bags hidden in a pair of Nike sneakers.

As a result, Adderley was arrested and taken into police custody, where he admitted to the offence.

When given the chance to speak, Adderley pleaded guilty, saying he used the drugs to stay focused and calm. He also begged the court for leniency, noting he was sorry for his actions.

In response, Magistrate McKinney fined him $500. He was told that failure to pay the fine would result in him spending three months behind bars.

Alexander Coakley, 44, and 46-year-old Wilca Deleveaux were also charged with possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply in separate matters.

Police allege they found Coakley with 14 grams of Indian hemp on February 11. While Deleveaux is accused of having over an ounce of marijuana in his possession on February 13.

However, both men have denied the charges and were subsequently granted bail at $1,000 with one surety. Their matters were also adjourned to April 4 for trial.

Tristan Black, 35, is also accused of several drug related offences.

Prosecutors say Black conspired to possess a quantity of Indian hemp with intent to supply and was found in possession of the same on January 25 while being concerned with others on Grand Bahama.

He is also accused of possessing a quantity of hashish with intent to supply the same day. It is further alleged that he conspired to possess the drugs.

However, Black has denied the offences and his matter was adjourned to April 4 for trial.

He was also granted bail at $25,000 with one or two sureties.
