A MALE juvenile was sent to prison yesterday after he was accused of robbing a woman at gun point and stealing a car.

The 17-year-old, whose name is being withheld because he is a minor, faced Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux in the presence of his legal guardian and represented by Attorney Alex Morley.

In court, he faced charges of armed robbery, stealing and receiving.

On June 12 in New Providence, it is alleged that the youth stole Ashton Atkinson’s $5,000 silver coloured Honda Fit - L/P: AV6090.

He is further accused, armed with a hand gun, of robbing Madeline Copper on June 13 of her keys, bank cards and $165 in cash.

While the accused pleaded not guilty to the receiving and stealing charges in relation to Atkinson’s vehicle, he was informed by the magistrate that the armed robbery charge would proceed by way of a Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI).

The juvenile’s case for that matter will be heard in the Supreme Court, where he can also make an official bail application for the armed robbery accusation.

However, as to the remaining two charges, Magistrate Turnquest-Deveaux set his bail at $5,000 with one or two sureties to be held in conjunction with the Supreme Court bail.

Until such time that it is granted to the accused, he will be remanded to the Simpson Penn Centre for Boys.

The 17-year-old is expected to return to court on October 26 for service of his Voluntary Bill of Indictment and the continuation of his two lesser charges.
