A MAN was charged in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday with the shooting death of a man who had been charged with the murder of a 70-year-old woman.

Brandan Smith, 19, stood before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans on a charge of murder.

On July 1 on Sherlia Street off Shirley Street Smith is accused of killing Kevin “Hot Boy” Whyms.

The murder victim in this matter had previously been suspected in two other killings. He was accused of the shooting murder of Kelson Kelly on October 23, 2021 and the death of 70-year-old Belpheme Lightbourne as the result of a home invasion in 2013.

Smith was not required to enter a plea in court.

He was further informed that his case would proceed by way of Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI).

Although the accused was denied bail, he is allowed to apply for it in the Supreme Court, where his trial will eventually be held.

Until such time that Smith is granted bail, he will be returned to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS).

Smith’s VBI is expected to be served in court on October 3.
