Bail granted in police assault case

By PAVEL BAILEY

A MAN accused of assaulting a police officer was granted bail in the Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Godfrey Darling, 32, stood before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans after police alleged that he assaulted Corporal Oliver while he was executing his duties on April 27 at Marathon Road.

Darling pleaded not guilty to the charge against him and claimed that he was with his parents on the day in question.

The accused has a history with the court and Magistrate Vogt-Evans commented that Darling had clearly deteriorated before her eyes over his many appearances before her.

She told Darling that the only way to change his life was to fall to his knees and ask God for forgiveness.

Darling was granted bail at $500 with one surety on condition that he sign in at South Beach Police Station every Sunday by 7pm.

His case was adjourned to July 7.
