TWO men were each given 18 months’ probation in Magistrate’s Court after they faced separate charges of violating their Supreme Court bail for attempted murder and unlawful sexual intercourse.

Jameson Jacob, 24, faced Magistrate Samuel McKinney on five counts of violating conditions of bail. This comes after Jacob was granted bail in the Supreme Court on February 5 on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Between September 1–9, the accused failed to charge his electronic monitoring device (EMD) according to his bail conditions.

In court, Jacob pleaded guilty. He said he failed to charge his EMD due to a recent death in his family and the back to school rush. Jacobs went on to apologise for his actions and promised not to repeat his mistakes.

The magistrate placed Jacobs on probation for 18 months. If he breaches this, he faces three months in prison.

The second man, Chanton Butler, 21, faced Magistrate McKinney on a charge of violating the conditions of his Supreme Court bail for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. Butler is accused of sleeping with a 15-year-old girl last November.

Butler’s bail was granted on December 15, 2021, by Justice Cheryl Grant- Thompson at $15,000.

Between August 13 to September 10, the accused failed to comply with the daily curfew of 9pm to 6am at his residence. He also failed to sign in at the East Street South Police Station every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday before 6pm.

In court, the accused pleaded guilty to breaching the conditions of his Supreme Court bail.

He too was given 18 months’ probation. He was further ordered to pay a $1,000 fine or spend three months in custody.
