A MOTHER is behind bars after admitting to putting a knife to her infant child’s throat last weekend.

Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans charged the 27-year-old mother, whose name is being withheld to protect the child’s identity, with cruelty to children.

The defendant reportedly endangered her 11-month-old son’s life with a knife on August 12 in New Providence.

After pleading guilty to the charge, the defendant was sent to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services, where she was ordered to have a psychological evaluation.

The child is to remain in the protective custody of social services.

The accused will be sentenced on October 20.
