Presvitera Maria Kolyvas

Presvitera Maria Kolyvas, widow of the Rev. Theophanis Kolyvas, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday May 16th, 2013, at home. Together with her husband she served the parish for 60 years. She was born on the island of Kalymnos Greece on December 20th, 1925. Along with her husband and firstborn she moved to The Bahamas on July 1st, 1953, making Nassau her home where she raised her four children. She was a confidant and mentor to many of the young people, and gave of herself untiringly supporting all community functions and events throughout the years.
She is survived by four children, Emanuel, Angelina, George and Anthony; daughters-in-law Loretta Kolyvas, Dinah Kidd-Kolyvas; son-in-law Frank Coyle; grandchildren Petros and Andreas Kolyvas, Michael and Yiorgo Coyle; Alexa, Costa and Lauren Kolyvas; great granddaughter Sophia Coyle; grandchildren-in-law Vanessa Kolyvas, Aude Mcdermott-Kolyvas, and Tanya Coyle; brother George Skandaliaris; sister Evdokia Kokkinou: sister-in-law Anna Skandaliaris; nephews Emmanuel, Tony, and John Skandaliaris and Tasso Spanondis; nieces Vassiliki and Angeliki Skandaliaris, Angelina and Kaliope Kokkinou.
The family acknowledges with grateful and sincere appreciation the concern, kindness and sympathy shown by the whole community towards Presvitera Maria and the family during her hospitalization and convalescence at home. We would like to give special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Patient Care Aids of Doctor's Hospital Intensive Care Unit under the direction of Dr. Floyd Carter and to all who came to give blood which saved Presvitera Maria's life during her acute crisis. The family also wishes to acknowledge Tamara Jones who gave her such special comfort and support during her final days.
The family is deeply indebted to Dr. Dean Tseretopoulos for his care, presence and support and wishes to express their gratitude for his guidance to make it possible for Presvitera Maria to realize her wishes and to return home for her remaining days.
Viewing will begin at 6:00 pm Friday, May 24th, at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church followed by a memorial service (Trisagion) at 8:00pm. The funeral service and internment on Church grounds will be on Saturday May 25th at 2:00pm. Funeral service to be officiated by Fr. Theodore Roupas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Presvitera Maria Kolyvas to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box N-823, Nassau N.P. Bahamas.
