Cursillo Movement bids farewell to Herbert Scott

By CANON SEBASTIAN

CAMPBELL

THE Cursillo Movement within the Bahamas is alive and continues with the work of God in the renewing of His church. It is an international movement found all over the world.

The Bishop of Honduras’ testimony is, “It has changed the landscape in my diocese. I attribute the growth in the diocese to our investment in Cursillo. When I took over as bishop there were 80 churches in the diocese. There are now 150 congregations.” The Bahamas Cursillo Movement held its annual general meeting on Saturday November 14. Mrs Virginia Minnis was elected lay director; she will be assisted by Mr David Ferguson as assistant lay director. They are assisted by a dynamic team, who when supported by the wider body, will through the grace of God continue to breathe new life and the movement will continue to do great things to build up God’s Kingdom here in this country.

On Sunday November 15, the movement had its mass of thanksgiving at St Gregory the Great. Here all the newly elected officers were installed by the Spiritual Director Canon S Sebastian Campbell on behalf of the bishop.

We ask the country and the whole church to pray for the ongoing work of this great movement, a gift to the church.

Mr Herbert Scott passed away on November 26. He had suffered long, being bed ridden since March of this year, the victim of a fall on his premises. We did not expect this sad news, as we hoped against hope that with a miracle he would have snapped out of this ailment. However “Scottie” was tired and he said so. God gave him the ultimate healing. He was faithful to his God and through whatever ministry he was involved. A faithful Christian he was an Anglican to the core. A leader in every sense. We thank God for his leadership within the Anglican Church Men, both at the parish and Diocesan level.

We especially sing his praises for his commitment to the Cursillo Movement. He pitched himself in, learned the movement and ran with its ideals. He is the immediate past Lay Director of the Cursillo Movement, serving in that position until November. “Scottie” gave of himself unselfishly to promote God’s kingdom through Cursillo. We travelled the islands together, many times at our own expense, trying in some way to deliver the movement from being Nassau-centric.

He toiled at the oars and did all he could to see that Cursillo retained its position as the chief renewal movement of our church and through this caused many to have a rebirth in their life in Christ.

All Cursillistas are asked to be present at his funeral, in full regalia, on Saturday at 10am at Christ Church Cathedral.
