FOR the fourth year in a row, CIBC FirstCaribbean is hosting its Walk for the Cure, which held in all 17 Caribbean countries where CIBC operates, in conjunction with parent company CIBC in Canada. The event has grown to include lead up fundraising and awareness activities.

The walk is scheduled for October 4 at 7am.

Registration is open until the day of the walk; the fee is $20 for adults and $12 for children.

Participants will leave from the Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre, head to Sandals Royal Bahamian and walk back to the starting point. The survivor’s (short) route will be from the Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre to the Meliá Nassau Beach Resort and back.

Of the proceeds, 100 per cent go to local cancer organisations. Past beneficiaries include the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group, Bahamas Breast Cancer Initiative, Cancer Societies in Nassau, Abaco, Eleuthera and Grand Bahama and the Cancer Association of Grand Bahama.

For the first time this year Grand Bahama, Abaco, and Eleuthera will host walks on October 3.

Last year’s walk raised $43,200 raised in the Bahamas and $200,000 across the Caribbean. It was the first year the walk and fundraisers were open to the public and sponsors.

In the first three years, the bank raised over $335,000 across the region. It has already raised over $29,150 in Bahamas this year, and $140,200 across Caribbean.

The Sandals Foundation is a platinum sponsor for the second consecutive year.

Bake Sales will be held at branches throughout September

On September 19, from 7am to 10am, CIBC FCIB will hold a “COMBAT Cancer Challenge” team obstacle event. Registration is $25 per team (five persons). The winning team will receive a prize and free registration for the walk.

Additionally, CIBC FirstCaribbean branches will host their annual decoration competition throughout the month of September. Judging will be done by the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group

The “Spare your Change to Spare a Life” fundraising drives will see CIBC FirstCaribbean teams hit the streets to solicit public support. Staff will be at major intersections throughout the island with five-gallon water bottles asking the public to empty their change from their ashtrays into the jugs.
