Church honours Vernal Sands as an ‘outstanding neighbour’

BAHAMIAN goodwill ambassador Vernal Sands was recently presented with another accolade when the community church of Coral Lakes in Coral Harbour named him ‘Most Outstanding Neighbour and Goodwill Ambassador’.

Mr Sands was recognised for his achievements in the community, especially for being vigilante and courteous, by the Family Life Kingdom Centre.

“Mr Sands has demonstrated to all of us in the neighborhood how we should be a good neighbour. He takes note of strange cars in the area and calls any of us and asks us if we know this particular car,” said Pastor Ryan Bethell. “He brings food, and anything special that he has he shares with us. He’s truly a good neighbour”.

Scores of residents of the Coral Lakes community attended the presentation to show support for Mr Sands.

Minister of State for Finance Michael Halkitis, who is also resident of the area, spoke highly of Mr Sands and the role he plays in the community.

“Since our homes are our greatest asset, Mr Sands has made us more aware of that and how to take better care of our homes and surroundings,” said Mr Halkitis. “He stresses being neighbourly and looking out for each other.”

Following the event, Mr Sands, in his usual style, cooked Sunday dinner for more than 100 people in his neighbourhood.
