Under the theme “Gloria in Excelsis Deo”, members of the St Matthew’s Anglican Sunrise Choir and Friends are gearing up to host their popular annual Christmas production.
Taking place next Friday at 7.30pm and 7pm Saturday at St Matthew’s Anglican Church, the event promises to deliver “Christmas on Broadway”. This year’s concert will be held under the patronage of former church rector, Rev Dr James B Moultrie and Mrs Bernadette Moultrie.
Like in the past years, there will be vocals, drama and dance, featuring popular Christmas on Broadway tunes.
Although they have been putting on the Christmas production for many years now, Sunrise members said it still gives them feeling of excitement to prepare the event each season as a means to raise funds for those in need.
According to Sunrise’s choir director, Marjorie Knowles, it is always a pleasure to host this entertaining and uplifting spiritual celebration of the Saviour’s birth. Members are looking forward to having a packed house to share their talents with.
“They look forward to entertaining and getting everyone into the spirit of Christmas. This event is important, because not only does it prepare the attendees for the upcoming celebration of Jesus’ birth, it is also a medium by which the choir solicits financial assistance to assist with worthy causes within the church community – from social outreach to medical emergencies,” said Ms Knowles.
The idea for the Christmas production came about after the church heard about a three-year-old girl who had been diagnosed with leukaemia in the final stages and had been recommended a bone marrow transplant. “The medical costs were exorbitant as the procedure had to be done in the United States of America. The family had no medical insurance and we decided to help by doing what we do best – singing and performing,” said Ms Knowles.
