Failure to learn how we got here
I think that it was Wednesday of last week that a raft of Tax Amendments were analysed by BICA (Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants) from the Department of Inland Revenue. Changes from Real Property Tax increased penalties, to VAT updates, and on to Business Licence changes, and I could only think to myself “Do these people even have a clue how we (The Bahamas) got to where we are today”?
PLP candidate Kingsley Smith wins West Grand Bahama and Bimini by-election
ROUND UP: PLP candidate Kingsley Smith has won the West Grand Bahama and Bimini by-election. In the unofficial vote total, Mr Smith finished with 2,150 ahead of the FNM's Bishop Ricardo Grant with 1,276, Coalition of Independents leader Lincoln Bain with 307, DaQuan Swain, Independent, with 28 and Terneille Burrows, Independent, with four. US Embassy in Nassau celebrates Pride Month
THE US Embassy in Nassau kicked off Pride Month today by raising the rainbow flag at the Queen Street chancery and at Liberty Overlook, the Ambassador’s residence. The flag will fly throughout the month.
Fire destroys structures in Kool Acres shanty town
Around 77 structures or some 80 percent of the Kool Acres shanty town off Joe Farrington Road have been burned to the ground in a fire that took place around 4pm on Saturday, according to Craig Delancey, Buildings Control Officer with the Ministry of Works and a part of the Unregulated Communities Action Taskforce.
