2024 is the year of anticipation
Those of us who are reading this submission are blessed and highly favoured. We made it into a brand New Year. Had it not been for The Lord, many of us would not be here right now. Many of our fellow Bahamians have; by natural death; debilitating illness; suicide or a violent demise gone across the Jordan. Those of us who yet remain, have much to be thankful for and I daresay that we have great anticipations.

The Progressive Liberal Party is led my an unbeatable Triumvirate in the form of the Most Hon. Philip ‘Brave’ Davis, KC, MP; the Honourable I Chester Cooper, MP, and the Honourable Frederick A Mitchell, MP. A triumvirate is an administration or a government led by three individuals who, while nominally wielding equal power, there is one amongst them who is primus inter pares, or first amongst equals. Clearly, this is what is needed in our wonderful nation at this critical juncture.

The Candidates’ Nomination Committee for the ruling Progressive Liberal Party and the Free National Movement have not selected their respective candidates for the West End and Bimini constituency. The contested bye-election will be held during the month of November. I have no doubt that the iconic PLP will recapture that constituency hands down. This one will be for Obie.

ERIC WIBERG: Stranded US aviators rescued by Bahamian fishermen and a dream
INAGUA has many aviation mysteries to parse; the East coast of this 650-square-mile-island has no roads or airstrip and is very rarely visited. Three American aviators who were without food for 17 days were rescued by fishermen in Little and taken to Great Inagua. Then there was a tragic engine fire and crash from which a US Mail pouch washed up, but not a plane or bodies. Then a mystery plane with parachute and body was found by park warden Henry Nixon. Remains of the plane still there, and were found over a decade ago by a Bahamian sleuth in a seaplane.

Wilchcombe was an ideal politician
I WAS shocked to have learned of what I consider to be the most untimely death of the late Hon. Obediah Hercules Wilchombe, the former MP for West End and Bimini. “Obie”, as he was affectionately and universally known, was the consummate politician and “servant” of the people of The Bahamas. As a very energetic individual, he was a prime example of what the ideal politician should be for his constituents. He served well and will, I am sure, be sorely missed.

The Letter to the Editor – Voter against Govt., not citizenship and signed D Rolle - is a great comment as politicians and their advisers incorrectly have decided to risk, at your political life, taking a further referendum. Nothing to fear if the government of the day has been governing well - no scandals, or has the critical thing that has decided recent elections at a low, so-called arrogance level?
