A moment to mourn first, please
LAST Monday, as I listened to the commentators over ZNS emanating from the northern Bahamas, I heard comments like “who should replace him”, “having a deep bench”, “maintaining that seat”, and the like (review the tape). It appears obvious to me that they were referencing the vacancy in Bimini and western Grand Bahama created by the untimely death of Obie Wilchcombe.

The people need to be represented
I have been very acquainted with the struggles emanating out of the constituency where the vacancy occurred, and the mixed emotions, the wayward sentiment often times, than not, when the decision goes against the choices of the constituents so impacted and needing to have a representer of substance, focused, and people centric agitating for and on their behalf sitting in the Halls Of the People’s Debating Chamber (the parliament of the Bahamas), in principle many have deemed meritoriously, and having merit, and deserving the utmost praise, we believed.

A weekend of empty promises!
This past weekend, the full machinery of both the Progressive Liberal Party(PLP) and the Free National Movement(FNM) rolled into west Grand Bahama. They were in full campaign mode. The showmanship, the high fives, and the fist bumping were everywhere. It was evident (to me at least) that emotions have been stirred in both political camps.

Grant’s remarks concerning
Bishop Ricardo Grant’s recent comments at the FNM’s candidate launch raise some troubling concerns. It is disheartening that a candidate seeking a parliamentary seat should make condescending remarks to voters, suggesting that he owes them nothing and implying that they can easily be bought. Such a stance not only demeans the very people he aims to represent but also undermines the sanctity of the democratic process.
