Plane crash families ‘kept in the dark’
So thankful that the families can hopefully find a little bit more closure now that the bulk of the wreckage, and additional remains have been found. Regardless of what they are trying to spin on the accident, licensing, etc, each aircraft accident and crash deserves to have the maximum effort exerted on it's investigation. Clearly this did not and is not what is happening. Sad.

You are so right. Sadly this is in our nature, in our blood , in our society and our government. We are a nation of disgusting and morally bankrupt people.
The amazing part is that so many espouse such pride, so many cry about immigrants, so many cry about being wronged. When in reality, we have nothing to be proud of. We should welcome all immigration, legal or not, as it's simply impossible for anyone who comes here to be worse than a Bahamian.
We have become the lowest form of life / society since independence.
I'm sure mother England is glad to be rid of us!

This is not a man who inspires confidence in anything but putrid business models and greed. No one can take his 'altruistic' explanations at face value or as being benign truth. He is a disease which as are his other mishandlers... Flowers etc. of peoples minds hopes and money - every gaming house owner known or unknown should be removed from society anywhere - and that along with their 'businesses'., their gains forfeited and their cells the worst available in Fox Hill Prison.

You are touching on one problem while not recognizing the other. Even if the Bahamas deport all immigrants, there is still a problem with corruption that is independent from illegal immigrants. Growing up there was corruption with getting your drivers license, you could not pass a test if you were train by the CIA without paying the money that the tester required. If you get caught with drugs, all the person would have to do is pay off the officer and most significantly our politicians have been getting kick backs from the beginning. So instead of looking at the illegal alien part of the article, look at the intention of the article that is to point of corruption, which is the real detriment to the Bahamas.

With a name like Economist, you should have the intelligence to see the point of view. You main to tell me that the elites in the Bahamas wouldn't use the same tactic as the elites in the US, Great Britain, Canada, Australia or any capitalist country to put basic fear in Bahamians so they wouldn't see them bringing extra burden on them and instead get caught up with other issues? Anyways halfway thru writing this post I realize that with a name like Economist you are one of the elites and don't want regular people to see what is the real problem in the Bahamas.

As in the past, Brent Symonette will simply give all of these illegal immigration matters the usual lip service and not do a damn thing to address them. We have two very serious threats to our national security: illegal immigrants and the numbers bosses. And Minnis sorely lacks the testicular fortitude needed to tackle these dangerous threats in any meaningful way.

Yeah and Adolph Hitler really did fight for his country's best interests, as long as you were not communist, homosexual, oj Jewish descent, mentally impaired, Roman Catholic, Romany descent, or socialist. I understand it did not end so well.

The "national tragedy" of this accident is the way it has been handled since the day this plane went down. The Bahamas seems incapable of just doing the right thing. I am disappointed with each successive daily newspaper I read. Will it ever change? Honestly? Can we ever carry on this country's business as adults, or are we mired in the behaviour of adolescents for all time?

Violence is a learnt behaviour, it should not be taught in our schools by teachers. Simple.

Quite frankly, I am afraid "the authorities" just don't care. I don't believe they ever do. I am sorry for those going through such sorrow knowing how insensitive "the authorities" can be. "Authority" always seems to go to their heads.

The Scandinavian countries usually top the lists of various measurements of good societies to live in .Two of them have now made it an offense to hit or spank your child. None of my children ever have ever suffered corporal punishment, they have seven college degrees between them and one will soon a doctorate. Corporal punishment is given by parents or teachers who are either bullies who enjoy exercising power over those weaker or they just lack the intelligence and imagination to think up an alternate non violent form of punishment. I hope the mother whose child was so badly beaten is able to take out a civil action against this misguided beating teacher and sue her for a very large some of money. this will not heal the damage done but may make other teachers think twice before they raise their hand to someone who weighs a hundred pounds or more less than they do. Bullies are sick people and should not be in postions of authority.

Shameful that many of the authorities and government departments still operate in a 'it's none of your business mode.' When persons lose loved ones anything that can bring closure and more comfort is welcome. And the authorities seem to be more forth coming about information about the plane than what human remains were recovered. And if the 'entire wreckage' was recovered and is on it's way to an air traffic investigation facility in the USA, surely some remains of personal effects were found. As simple as calling the concerned family members together and saying what is the procedure from here on in. Closed minds.

In fact all the codifying of laws mentioned can be done without the WTO. To suggest we give up some of our sovereignty to an un elected body so we can have the power to pass laws and regulations our government can do now is nonsense. Maybe we should still be a colony then since our government apparently needs an outside body to force it to do what is in the best interest of the Bahamas according to this article? Do any search online about small developing countries and WTO and it is not a pretty picture.

Everything that Tim Rider said is true, but he didn't go far enough.
I remember Crisco Butt, the 2nd-most corrupt prime minister of the Bahamas genuinely perplexed when he lamented that "tiny St. Lucia has 2 Nobel Prize laureates and the Bahamas has none". The dim-witted, "soft", brain-dead moron couldn't figure it out.
We will not "Forward, Onward, Upward, Together" until: 1) We acknowledge our criminal first prime minister and publicly remove his name from our consciousness and seize the treasury money back from his family. 2) Acknowledge that the education system was corrupted by Loftus Roker and spend it back to first world status. 3) Jail anyone and everyone who got rich by being a Member of Parliament, and freeze and seize all of their assets, onshore and offshore. 4) Shut down the webshops, and freeze and confiscate the assets of the beneficial owners. 5) Disband the Christian Council. 6) Enact legislation to disband or limit union activity and put a legislative cap on salaries of union officials to that of their highest paid, dues-paying member. 7) Re-educate boys and girls as young as 8 years old about sex and single-motherhood, and re-introduce societal stigma to sweethearting and out-of-wedlock childbirth. None of this shiite that the baby is God's child who might grow up to be Prime Minister. 8) Legalise marijuana and free and pardon all of those who have been convicted under those retrogressive statutes. 9) Cut the civil service by three quarters and introduce technology to provide government services. 10) Diversify the economy by hiring foreigners to run our country. 11) Throw out the Bahamian dollar and get real money to run the country. 12) Ban the PLP and jail most of them under RICO laws -- Racketeering, Influence and Corruption and re-write history to show what a mess that those criminals have made of a beautiful country.

This is the inevitable result of your "able seamen" not being able but being landlubbers slotted into Government jobs. I'm sure there are more than a few who serve via their love of the sea, as I once had aspirations to do, being of the requisite age when the RBDF was formed. In that, as in any other civil service hierarchy, i'd probably still be swabbing decks! I Laud the concept of the RBDF, but lament the competency. The P.M's comment should be taken seriously. Those who would criticize his comments are no doubt those who would give every child an award regardless of accomplishments.
