The country stands with you, young Mr. Mackey. The country does not stand with the PM and shame on the Tribune for leading with a headline that labelled your painting tasteless, even though most Bahamians love your painting and support your freedom of speech to express yourself through art. The Tribune should not have done that. They call out the government time and time again, but when a Bahamian artist does it, they call it tasteless in the headline? You are a voice for the voiceless and too many Bahamians feel like their voices have been ignored by this shameless, deceitful and corrupt government that lies and steals from the people without a second thought. Shame on this government and shame on our worthless PM and his worthless Cabinet.

I don’t believe or support 5% of what Lincoln Bain believes in but I am very grateful for him. He is offering a tremendous service to the nation by challenging the status quo and trying to hold the government accountable to the people.

This is outrageous. Fine disagree with Sarkis but to say that you will kick him out of the country is not right. The government is already looking at seizing the hotels. Wouldn't you be a bit pissed off if someone came and was about to take +/- $750M from you?

A very sad day for the Bahamas. The government and the people who elected them should be ashamed of themselves and the legacy of this decision will live on.

I don't expect having a racist xenophobe as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration is going to add much value to this country, especially one that can only use an abnormally small percentage of his brain capacity.

"Baha Mar is a commercial entity, designed purely for the profit of the developer.” Ummmm.... no actually it is an entity designed to add hundreds of millions of dollars to the economy, although the Bahamian economy will likely see a small percentage of that, as the majority will no doubt go into the pockets of the politicians such as Mitchell.

I have a feeling that these "politicians" are in the process of digging their own graves yet are too naive to know it. By attracting this much global attention, surely it's a matter of time before the truth get's revealed and they all get exposed. Maybe in a few months they will have wished they spent some money carrying out a refurb her Majesty's Prison.......

You and your party are a national disgrace and embarrassment of epic proportions. History will shame you and blame you and the name Christie will by synonymous with incompetence for all time and the PLP and their lying, thieving and corrupt incompetence will finally be banished from this land of ours. Get from round here Mr. Wutless PM!

WOW! Reading those emails made me so embarrassed! Fitzgerald was BEGGING for the contracts! I can't believe it. What does his father needing 24 hour care have to do with Sarkis? Why did he feel that Sarkis should give him anything? This guy must never sit in Cabinet again.

Well_mudda_take_sic 10 years, 6 months ago on UPDATED: Rosewood bids to quit Baha Mar as govt argues for wind up petition

Rosewood has probably given thought to the serious conflicts of interest that both Christie and Maynard-Gibson have in their maliciously meddlesome involvement in the Baha Mar dispute, including the grossly unfair favouritism shown by the corrupt Christie-led PLP government towards the Chinese general contract and Chinese lender, and decided its better to explore opportunities opening up in Cuba. The anti-foreigner sentiment of 'Freddy Boy' Mitchell and 'Bumpy Head Shameless' Shane Gibson no doubt also helped Rosewood decide that Bahamas is no longer a suitable place to do business.

Bahamian_in_London 10 years, 6 months ago on UPDATED: Rosewood bids to quit Baha Mar as govt argues for wind up petition

This is the start of the end.

It was sadly inevitable when the PLP stopped chapter 11 being recognised by the supreme court and prevented the debtor in possession financing being approved, as well as failing to pay foreign workers.

It doesn't matter if the building is complete, the Government's and the Chinese will have control of an empty shell, with no one willing to operate the hotels.

It was so obvious this would happen, yet they persisted to follow their own selfish and ego driven agenda. Shame on you Christie and you're gang of hacks. You have failed this country.

Islandgirl 10 years, 9 months ago on Wilchcombe fears crime is ruining nation’s reputation

Oh. Now you are concerned? Where was this concern when those dimwits put up all those friggin billboards in largely touristic areas, advertising the murder count? Anything to get into power right? Teach these people they have to work for a living. Help them become educated so they can make a more meaningful contribution to this nation. Set an example. All of you who go into parliament poor, come out filthy rich and are held unaccountable for not one thing while amassing this wealth in questionable fashion, are teaching them that they are entitled to everything, even when they didn't earn it, and that they are answerable to no one. This has been the order of the day for decades, and only God knows how to reverse this animalistic mentality.

The international community is not stupid. They will see this for what it is, the Bahamas government puppet (our court system) doing their bidding. Any fool that says our court system is independent can look at the many instances where government has influenced the judicial process. A certain numbers mans case just recently reeks of political direction. These corrupt politicians think they are fooling everyone when in reality they are only fooling themselves. FDI is a thing of the past unless it comes from China. Also how come it was fine for Atlantis to go into bankruptcy in Delaware but not Baha Mar? What is the big difference, the government has been directed by our new masters!

Wideawake 10 years, 6 months ago on Mitchell’s office accuses Dr Rollins of ‘betrayal’

Mr. Mitchell needs to REALLY listen to, and UNDERSTAND the words of "Redemption Song". This poetic ballad was written at the end of Bob Marley's career in 1980 and quickly became the inspiration for oppressed people all over the World.

Although Marley previously sang about the struggle of black men and women against the racial prejudice that was rampant in the 60's and 70's, "Redemption Song" represents a change in style and content from his previous recordings. Written shortly before his death, this song challenges persons who are struggling against oppression, to "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourself can free our minds".

Instead of railing against the forces of "Babylon" and seeing the struggle of oppressed people as an EXTERNAL struggle against evil forces, he realized, at the end of his life, that "By the hand of the Almighty, we forward in this generation".

In other words, by 1980, he saw that, because of God's power, great changes were taking place in the world and that the most important battle was now an internal one, because although the struggle in the outside world was succeeding, there still remained an internal battle to free ones mind from self doubt and the inferiority complex that racism had created.

Mr. Mitchell should free himself from mental slavery! He lives in The Bahamas in 2015! We have majority rule! There are no longer oppressive white people trying to enslave black Bahamians! Babylon was overthrown a long time ago by the hand of The Almighty ! If you must sing, "sing a song of Freedom", "Redemption songs!"...but also, you must free your mind and thereby let go of your racist baggage!

One last thought: if your racist comments are not truly how you think, but instead are calculated to inflame Bahamian voters, you should be DEEPLY ASHAMED of yourself! As a leader in this country, your role should be to lift up and enlighten those Bahamians less educated and less aware than you, not to prey on their racial insecurity for the sole purpose of winning votes!

Zags 10 years, 5 months ago on Baha Mar files Chapter 11 'viable framework' reorganisation plan in Delaware

As I posted over a month ago:

There is a difference between being bankrupt/insolvent and filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection. Bankruptcy protection simply means that a person, or an entity, is protected from its creditors while being given the time to restructure. For some unknown reason this difference seems to be lost on the majority of people here in The Bahamas… Did American Airlines, for example, stop flying after it filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection?

If Baha Mar's Chapter 11 bid had not been refused, by now they would have been well on the way to completing the resort, and much closer to repaying their creditors.

A lot of time has been wasted because of The Bahamas government's [and its judiciary's] myopia.
